The newest live steamer on the WESL is a model of an actual steam team built by Henschel in 1891, which now lives in a museum in Germany.

WESL also has electric examples of the same tram made by LGB several decades ago.

This one is a brass butane fired live steam model which came in kit form.

The tram came as a kit, which only came with German instructions. Google Lens was very helpful in providing translation to English. Assembly was very straightforward – I would recommend using better tools than those provided with the kit, especially the hex keys.

This is a video from the first firing, it’s pretty rough. Once broken in a bit the engine will run much more smoothly, as shown in the second video.

Now to try the tram out on the WESL mainline… In the future the WESL Engineering shop will supply remote-control features to the model, and also will install a remote-controlled steam whistle as well. Updates as they become available.
